These are three of Minnesota’s biggest health insurers, and they’re genuinely different — in network, price, and how they deliver care. There’s no single “best,” only the best fit for your doctors and budget. As an independent broker we represent all three (and others), so here’s the honest comparison, then we’ll match you for free.
It’s tempting to pick the most familiar name or the cheapest premium and call it done. But the carrier that’s perfect for your neighbor can be wrong for you — it all hinges on whether your doctors are in the network and how you like to get care.
We don’t favor any of them. We line them up against your situation and tell you which fits.

| 2026 individual rate change | about +18.7% | about +13% to +19% | about +30.8% |
| Relative Silver premium | Higher (example ~$545/mo, age 40) | Lowest of the three (example ~$379/mo, age 40) | Higher end |

Rate changes from the Minnesota Department of Commerce; quality ratings from MNsure/CMS; premium examples reflect 2026 Minnesota marketplace data for a 40-year-old at the Silver tier and vary by age, county, and plan.
The largest and most flexible. Blue Plus is the only PPO on MNsure, so it offers out-of-network coverage, and the national Blue network is a real plus if you travel or see providers across several systems. Premiums tend to run higher for that flexibility.
Unusual in that it’s both an insurer and a care system with its own clinics and hospitals. That integration often means the lowest premiums and the highest quality ratings — as long as your doctors are in its network.
A broad, established statewide network. Medica also took over UCare’s individual & family plans after UCare’s December 2025 rehabilitation, which is part of why its 2026 increase was the steepest of the three.
